One of the most popular custom ROMs for Android devices, MIUI, has been languishing at version 4 for quite some time. However, enterprising developer adyscorpius from the XDA forums has ported the latest version of the ROM, numbered at 5, to HTC’s flagship handset—the One. You can grab the ROM, dubbed AdyScorpiusMIUI v5, from its thread on the XDA forum.
MIUI v5 is an important update to the popular Chinese ROM and brings the Android version up to date at 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, bringing with it some of the new features, such as the improved camera interface. Visually, however, MIUI v5 looks almost the same as v4 with its large colourful icons and vibrant overall colour theme.
MIUI v5 is finally on the HTC One
Installing the ROM seems to be as easy as installing any other ROM. After pasting the ROM’s zip file on to the phone’s memory, users will have to reboot to recovery, wipe data and just flash the ROM through the “Install ZIP from SD Card” option, after which it should work fine. The developer has however noted that changing the DPI of the ROM to 420 will improve the overall display performance of the ROM.
As with any new custom ROMs, however, this one also has its fair share of issues. However, most of the bugs already have fixes for them, as described in the thread, and the developer has noted that should anyone have any issues that haven’t been covered in the thread already, they should post a Logcat of their device, which will let the developer pinpoint the problem.
Currently, the ROM only works on the international variant of the HTC One, and users should ask the developer before attempting to flash the ROM on to any of the carrier-specific version of the device.
