Minecraft Pocket Edition to get command blocks, enhanced functionality

The mobile, console and Windows 10 Store versions of Minecraft have always been crippled in comparison to the regular PC version. Minecraft’s developer, Mojang, say they’re already working on some ideas to enhance functionality and to give more power to the user. Minecraft is a world building game of sorts. You’re placed in a randomly generated world that includes mountains, water, animals and even zombies. You mine “blocks” and builds structures, weapons and more to aid your survival in the world. You can build castles, tunnels, death-traps and more. Minecraft’s mods and command blocks on PC allow players to shape the world as they see fit. You can add the ability to fly, teleport and mutate, anything that you can imagine. The Pocket Edition of Minecraft on the other hand is comparatively tame, restricting you to Minecraft’s core functionality. Coming to the simplified version of Minecraft are command blocks, these are blocks that you can program with some sort of logic, transforming the way they interact with the rest of Minecraft. PC users have been playing around with these blocks for a while now and it’s nice to finally see them coming to other platforms. As Mojang points out however, entering complex code on a PC is easy. Doing the same on a touch-screen or gamepad is another matter entirely. The developers are currently working on ways to fix that. In conversation with CNET, Jens Bergensten, lead developer at Minecraft, said, “Modding is a core element of the Minecraft community. In order to support mods for other platforms, we need to create a system that allows this without modifying the application itself. We are currently researching our options and hope to solve this soon.” Microsoft acquired Minecraft for $2.5 billion in 2014.
