Minecraft could head to Oculus Rift next year: Report

Microsoft has released Windows 10 on 29 July. Around the same time, Minecraft announced that a beta edition of the game will be available for free to Windows 10 users. And now, at the keynote of the biggest VR conference – Oculus Connect – Palmer Luckey announced that Minecraft will be adding official Oculus Rift support next year. According to a report in RoadtoVR, “Palmer Luckey made a brief appearance on stage at Oculus Connect today to make but one announcement, that one of the biggest videogames in the world is coming to Oculus Rift, giving millions of players  tantalising reason to get into virtual reality.” Earlier, there were reports how Microsoft was releasing a “whole new version” of Minecraft for Windows 10. According to the announcement by Microsoft, “Players who already have the PC edition of Minecraft will be able to download the Windows 10 beta version free.” The announcement also said that users could download Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition at a discounted price of $10 throughout the beta period. Also, players who download the game during the beta phase will continue to have access to the game even when it is out of beta, and receive all future updates to the game at no additional cost. Although this decision is more about Minecraft exploring new modes of gameplay, it is important for the rise and popularity of virtual reality which has been enjoying widespread developer and consumer interest as a technology.
