Mid-range Josh Fortune HD launched for Rs 11,999

Josh Mobiles, has launched the Fortune HD, a mid-range phone that’s surprisingly priced at Rs 11,999. That price seems very high for a smartphone which is still on Ice Cream Sandwich. Not that the other specs of the phone explain the price.

Fortune HD has a 5.3-inch screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Under the hood is a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, and there’s 1GB of RAM too. It’s bitterly disappointing to see this level of hardware not running Jelly Bean. The Fortune HD comes to the market with an 8MP rear camera as well as a 3MP front camera.

The Fortune HD comes with dual-SIM functionality, like every other smartphone from Indian makers these days. In terms of storage, the smartphone comes with 2GB of internal storage, but can be expanded up to 32 GB. It also gives users a 2400 mAh battery.

There are two things that might work against the Fortune HD. The first is the screen size. In the same price range, we have seen companies like Micromax and Karbonn come up with smartphones that have 5-inch screens. The Micromaz A116 Canvas HD for instance comes with a bigger screen, and at almost the same price as the Fortune HD.

The second factor that may work against the Fortune HD is the outdated operating system that the smartphone will come to the market in. with most Indian companies in the market currently offering Android 4.2. Jelly Bean, its hard to see any phone with Ice Cream Sandwich having much to offer. Josh may have to rethink its strategy for the Fortune HD if it is to match up with companies like Micromax, Zen, Karbonn and Xolo to get a share in the market.
