At the ongoing Mobile World Congress, a US smartphone brand called General Mobile launched an Android One smartphone called the GM 5 Plus which is said to be priced under $300 (approximately Rs 20,500). The device is said to be available in Turkey in March, followed by 15 countries. In terms of specifications, the device sports a 5.5-inch full-HD 2.5D display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor paired with 3GB RAM. Running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, the device features an internal storage of 32GB which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.
The GM 5 Plus comes equipped with a 13MP rear camera with autofocus and dual flash while the front facing camera also sports a 13MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. These cameras have also been tuned by DxO, who are known to benchmark the best professional cameras. On the connectivity front, the smartphone offers a USB-Type C reversible connector, and support for category 7 LTE. A 3100mAh battery completes the package. An earlier report pointed out that Android One devices such as the Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V, and Spice Dream Uno have started receiving notifications for the update last October. Besides, Google has announced that it has started rolling out the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player as an over the air (OTA) software update.
