Microsoft has announced a new update for its Windows Phone app for the desktop on Wednesday. The company was reported to have pulled its software out of preview mode and made it accessible as a stable build. While the update is pretty useful if you have a Windows Phone, the update also has a few features that should make any user’s desktop experience better.
The first add-on that Microsoft has worked on is the podcast support that the software offers. The software will now be able to support users who get their podcasts from other sources, rather than just those who have got their podcasts from iTunes, as was seen before. As a user, you can automatically sync the Windows Phone App for Desktop with podcasts that are saved in a specific folder on your desktop. The app will then automatically sync the same with your phone, on connection.

The software also allows you to sync audio files that may be anywhere on your computer, including the ones that may be found on an external hard drive. Microsoft has also addressed quite a few bugs in its earlier systems. According to the official blogpost, Microsoft says that is has “rolled up your feedback on the preview versions and made fixes to improve performance.” A useful addition is the ability to now get updates directly from your desktop, as opposed to having to go to the Windows Phone website, which the earlier versions forced users to do.

Microsoft seems to have done quite a lot of work on its latest instalment. One of the major drawbacks noticed though, is the inability to search a store for content. However, if you have a Windows Phone, this desktop app is an excellent way to manage the content you want on your phone. You can get the latest update here.
