Microsoft announced today that it had updated its Skype for Business app on iOS. The update brings the usual performance improvements and tweaks, but the important change is Microsoft’s use of Apple’s Call Kit, which lets users answer Skype for Business calls directly from the lockscreen. Yes, answering calls from the lockscreen is something new for iOS users and was only introduced to developers after the launch of iOS via Call Kit. In its blog post, Microsoft has detailed how it has taken advantage of this new feature. Indeed it makes for a more native calling experience on iOS, which in the case of Skype for Business lets users seamlessly use their personal smartphone as a business phone. Skype for Business calls will appear as regular calls along with the caller’s name on the lockscreen. Another handy feature is one tap access to the Skype for Business app via the calling interface. Additionally users will also get access to built-in IT and user controls. This allows users to not receive Skype for Business calls on the lockscreen if the situation demands for the same. IT admins can disable this integration for their users through a policy, and app users can also control it in the settings.
