With Windows 8, Microsoft introduced a tablet-style UI on the conventional desktop mode, but many users were put off by the complexity of the OS. The company then introduced back the Start button in Windows 8.1 to ease the transition, and some reports last year hinted that the next ‘ **Windows 8.2** ’ update will bring back the Start menu. Now, it is believed that Microsoft is working on its next update to be called Threshold aka ‘Windows 9’ and will bring back the Start menu.

[caption id=“attachment_227746” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Return of the Start Menu](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/wndows_9_myce.jpg) Return of the Start Menu[/caption]   Myce has managed to get its hands on two new Windows Threshold screenshots – one showing the new start menu and the other shows windowed apps. The first screenshot reveals build 9795, compiled on July 13 and is said to be part of the uip_dev feature build lab (FBL). UIP stands for User Interface & Platform that means the team responsible for UX changes like the start menu and windowed apps plus some under the hood kernel changes, states the report. [caption id=“attachment_227747” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Another leaked screenshot](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/windows9_myce_01.jpg) Another leaked screenshot[/caption]   While it’s no secret that Microsoft is working on the Start menu, this piece of news further hints that Microsoft plans to follow a simple numbering scheme and the next version could be named ‘Windows 9’ minus the ‘Pro’.   While the idea behind Windows 8 was to bring a seamless experience for mobile and desktop users, looks like Microsoft now planning to take a complete U turn. With this update, it is also believed that Microsoft is trying to woo desktop users and trying hard to bring resemblance to Windows 7 with its next iteration of desktop OS.
