Microsoft Windows 10 fall update could hamper your gaming experience

The recent fall update that came through for Microsoft Windows 10 users just this month seems to be getting on the nerves of gamers. This is because the big update seems to have a mind of its own, deactivating software and apps that seem to clash with the system. According to Venture Beat , users are reporting that the new Windows 10 update seems to be uninstalling apps leading to a number of complaints showing up on the Windows 10 boards and forums. These software applications include CPU-Z, Speccy and even the AMD Catalyst Control Center, the one that is used to tweak the graphics settings on your graphics card. And as always, there is a deep-rooted reasoning for this. Microsoft’s Windows 10 deactivates these applications in order to avoid the blue screen of death and other crashes that the they cause. So in short, Windows 10 is not doing anything wrong per se, but simply trying to improve the Windows experience by dumping the stuff that does not work out the Window (or in the Windows.old folder). Indeed the reason for complaining is not because Windows 10 is uninstalling software from user systems, but the fact that it is doing so without asking for permissions as a Reddit poster pointed out: “Microsoft should ask for permission, and not for forgiveness. I would be fine with it if Windows 10 said ‘Hey, this application can cause problems and we recommend that you uninstall it. Do you want us to do that for you?’ and then shuts it’s mouth about it if you say ‘No,’ but they shouldn’t just uninstall it without prior warning.” Windows 10 is a massive update. And while many rushed to install and try out Microsoft’s latest and greatest operating system, few went through the fine print, which will tell you that “The Microsoft Services Agreement allows Microsoft to change or discontinue certain apps or content where we deem your security is at risk.” This was something that was pointed out a few months before the release of Windows 10 where the news revolved around the fact that Microsoft could remotely disable pirated games. So for now, those using the ATI Radeon graphics card with some tweaking will need to wait a bit until a Windows 10 compatible update arrives.
