Microsoft launched the Surface Pro back in January, and now it is said to be working on its successor. The Surface Pro 2 may come with the same design as its predecessor, but one can expect an adjustable kickstand, reveals Neowin . However, the kickstand won’t be completely adjustable as it may support just two positions – a traditional notebook mode and a new angle mode that can be used even on uneven surfaces. The Surface Pro 2 is likely to begin shipping later this year.

While the design may remain the same, it is said to get a bump in performance. Reportedly, Microsoft will be upgrading its Surface Pro 2 with Intel’s new Haswell processor , along with 8GB RAM. It is likely to come fitted with Haswell-based Core i5 which will improve the battery life of the device. Now, it should be noted that weak battery life was one of the problem areas with the original Pro. Needless to say, it will run on Windows 8.1, which is slated for public release next month . Microsoft is said to be working on another media campaign, to raise awareness about the next-gen Pro.
There have been reports stating that Microsoft has been losing money on Surface tablets . The growth in sales is being eclipsed by the hefty marketing and advertising expenses. Its two tablet models, introduced in October 2012 and earlier in February to challenge Apple Inc’s popular iPad, have so far brought in revenue of $853 million.
