We have been hearing rumours of the alleged Microsoft Surface Phone launching sometime in early 2017. A recent ‘Minimum hardware requirements’ page for Windows 10 Mobile had been updated with details such as added compatibility with MSM8998 system on chip, which has since been removed.

MSM8998 is the technical name for the yet to be released Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipset which is expected to be made on the 10nm manufacturing process. This upgrade to the Snapdragon 820 is expected to be compatible with 8GB of RAM according to a Forbes report.

Earlier reports have stated that there would be three Surface Phones targetting three different user groups – consumers, business users and enthusiasts.

The pricing will certainly be addressing the higher end segment considering Surface Pro and Surface Book products have been traditionally targetted at the high end segment.

There hasn’t been much excitement about Microsoft’s Lumia 950/950XL line of phones and Microsoft has recently released its Lumia 650 for the Indian market. The Windows 10 Mobile OS is still under development and two major updates are expected in the near future – Redstone 1 which has got the name Anniversary Update and Redstone 2 which is scheduled for Spring 2017. These updates are expected to bring in a lot of polish to the Windows 10 Mobile OS.
