Microsoft Scales Back WGA

Microsoft who has been under fire for its WGA program has responded by scaling back the programme’s “phone in” period from daily to once in 2 weeks. It has also promised that eventually the phone home feature will be phased out altogether.

However, there is now a rumor doing the rounds that Microsoft may use WGA to disable pirated versions of Windows. Consider it a Kill switch as it were this could spell trouble and could lead to a hue and cry as it might inaverdently disable legitimate installations.

Sounds like a real copout to me.
