Microsoft says WP7 Mango is ready, delay is from manufacturers' end

Windows Phone 7 Mango is good to go, according to Microsoft. Apparently, it’s the device manufacturers that are delaying the launch. Peter Wissinger, Microsoft’s Director of Mobile Business in the Nordic countries released an official statement in which he states that Mango has been ready for sometime now and it’s up to mobile phone makers to launch it on their respective devices.

What’s with the delay?

What’s with the delay?

The current list of hardware partners includes Samsung, HTC, LG, Dell, Acer, Fujitsu, ZTE and Nokia. Out of all these manufacturers, we know for sure that Nokia is prepping a bunch of phones based on Mango, scheduled to be launched in the coming months. The list includes the previously spotted Nokia W9 or ‘Sea Ray’ and a couple of other un-named devices. What’s puzzling is why none of the existing WP7 devices have gotten the update yet? It’s not like they have to work on a custom skin for the phone like they do with Android devices. WP7 phones run on pretty much the stock firmware that Microsoft releases, so what gives? If what Wissinger says is true then it’s about time mobile manufacturers got off their behinds and released the update.
