Within a week of its release, Microsoft had to pull out the Windows 8.1 RT update from its website due to some “problems”. Though Microsoft didn’t reveal the reason, boot configuration data errors resulting into blue screen of death was believed to be the issue. According to TheVerge , Microsoft has released a Surface RT recovery image to address some Windows RT 8.1 update issues.

The company offers a 3.7GB download to restore a Surface RT to its original state. The recovery image requires a USB drive with more than 4GB of storage capacity and a PC running Windows 7 or later. The instructions that come with the download claim to fix several issues along with the RT 8.1 update problem that arose last week. Currently, the Windows 8.1 RT update is not available for download on the company’s website.

Microsoft released a statement saying, “We have made recovery media available for download along with actionable guidance for affected customers. We continue to work towards making the Windows RT 8.1 update available in the Windows Store again and apologize for any inconvenience”

The news also has it that the problem which arises while updating to the latest Windows 8.1 RT version of the OS is limited to Surface RT devices. Microsoft has been struggling with the sales figures of its Surface tablets, and this could affect it further. Also, it should be noted that the company is all set to sell its latest Surface 2.

Yesterday, the company said that the problem has affected one out of every 1,000 Surface RT devices, but hadn’t been able to find out the exact problem. Reports also claim that people with the older Windows RT device trying to upgrade to the newer version faced “bricking” issues, which means their devices would shut down during the download and become inoperable.
