Nothing ruins fun like a poorly-taken selfie or one which looks like it’s from the 20th century. So what do manufacturers do? They go with high megapixel front cameras too, obviously. To be honest, the big name manufacturers are only now catching up to low-cost players such as Micromax, Karbonn and a host of other Chinese brands already caught on to this trend last year. But now HTC’s One M8 has a 5-megapixel front camera, which is of a higher resolution than its rear Ultrapixel camera. Another smartphone One launched by OnePlus too have the same front camera resolution.
According to The Verge , Nokia is about to emulate HTC with a smartphone codenamed Superman, that’s built for selfies. The highlight of the phone will be its front camera which is expected to come with 5MP resolution. The phone will likely be the first one to be released by Microsoft post its Nokia deal .
Until now Nokia has been concentrating on bringing high-tech rear cameras for its smartphones and has done really well with the PureView branding. Though its low-end phones didn’t have a front camera, the higher end ones sported cameras that didn’t really offer too much in terms of features or functionality. The site goes on to state, “We understand that Superman is designed as a 4.7-inch mid-range handset that’s expected to debut towards the end of the year. Microsoft is also currently working towards two Windows Phone 8.1 updates that will be delivered over the course of 2014.”
It is not yet known whether the smartphone mentioned will come with Nokia or Microsoft branding. A 5-megapixel front camera will also greatly improve the quality of Skype calls, which is set to be the default video calling system on Windows Phone in the near future.
