Microsoft kills unlimited OneDrive storage

Microsoft will now be ending its famous unlimited OneDrive storage. It has also decided to downgrade free and paid options. According to the OneDrive blog, “OneDrive has always been designed to be more than basic file storage and backup. These changes are needed to ensure that we can continue to deliver a collaborative, connected, and intelligent service.” For starters, Microsoft will no longer offer unlimited storage to the Office 365 and Home Personal, rather these subscriptions will include 1TB of OneDrive storage. As of now, current customers of standalone OneDrive storage plans are not affected by these changes. 100GB and 200GB paid plans are going away as an option for new users and will be replaced with a 50GB plan for $1.99 per month in early 2016. In addition, the free OneDrive storage will now be decreased from 15GB to 5GB. Also, if a user is using 5GB of free storage, he or she will be able to use this plan for at least 12 months after the subscription changes. The company points out that this move will allow them to continue to innovate and make OneDrive the ‘best option for people who want to be productive and do more.’
