Microsoft created ripples with the announcement of the availability of Virtual Server 2005 R2 as a free download and extending its support to Linux virtual machines on its platform. Microsoft will support Linux running as a guest in Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 enabling customers to run their Linux based software on the Virtual Server. Microsoft is also providing software that can be installed in the Linux guest operating systems to enhance productivity and has developed virtual machine for Red Hat Linux and Novell SUSE Linux. The software giant also demonstrated a Red Hat Linux guest running on Virtual Server 2005 at LinuxWorld.
