Microsoft has announced the release of a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) blogging editor to help non technical users with writing and editing their blogs. Windows Live Writer allows users to display text and position images and works with a range of blogging services other than Microsoft’s own Windows Live Spaces, such as Google Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, and WordPress. Besides being free, the tool allows users to create and preview their blog posts in exactly the same way they would appear online, hence the WYSIWYG tag. Windows Live Writer is a desktop based tool which gives the Microsoft application an advantage over web-based blogging editors. Moreover, the application also aims to make it easy to add elements like photos, maps, music, and movies to the blog.
