Microsoft announces Windows 8.1 (a.k.a Blue) as a free update

The newest update for the Windows 8, previously known as “Windows Blue” was officially announced by Microsoft on Tuesday. While officials said that the update will be available for both Microsoft devices and Windows RT devices alike, they also confirmed that it would be a free update.

The interesting thing for users to know here is that the update will be available on the official Windows start screen in the Windows Store. This is a step away from the standard way in which Windows updates its systems.

Be that as it may, for the company, Windows 8.1, or “Windows Blue” as it was earlier called, seems to be the golden opportunity the company needs to clean up the faults that the operating system seems to have, not in the least, the lack of a Start Button as well as the problems it was facing due to the Update Assistant.

It is clear though, that the company is moving fast, with updates that are now being distributed much faster than before. This shows a developmental cycle that will definitely lead to cheaper updates for the every day man. The frequent updates will also mean frequent updates on the features that Windows boasts. That is always a good thing.

Now, from whatever has been seen of the Windows 8.1 update, it seems like the company is definitely getting its act together. But it is uncertain whether the Windows 8.1 will herald a movement, where the company will continue to give out such service packs or become chargeable in the future. Either way, the future is around the corner, and Windows 8.1 may just be able to fix a lot of the user woes the company has had to deal with.
