Microsoft and Google offer free Skype and Hangout calls to France for a few days

After the terrorist Paris attacks recently, everyone is trying to their bit to help. To help communicate with friends and family, tech companies such as Microsoft and Google have made Skype and Hangout calls free for a few days, respectively. In a blogpost, Skype writes, “In light of the devastating events that have taken place in Paris, we want to help people stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues. So, with immediate effect we are making all domestic and international calls to landlines and mobiles in France free of charge* for the next few days.” ![Skype_ibnlive_640](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Skype_ibnlive_640.jpg) However, this will exclude calls made to special, premium service and non-geographical numbers. Needless to say, terms & services and, Internet and mobile fees may apply. Similarly, in a Google+ post, the search giant has also announced calls made to France via Hangouts app will be free of the international charges. The post reads, “We’re thinking of you, Paris. No fees on calls to France, via Hangouts. #ParisAttacks” So, we can assume, Google hasn’t added any geographical restrictions and the calls can be made from anywhere in the world. Besides, Facebook also activated its Safety Check tool in Paris after the horrific terror attacks. Facebook’s move to activate its tool, which is meant for natural disaster prone areas to help you inform your friends that you are fine, got a lot of praise on social media. However, the  decision to not activate it for Beirut terror attack, had a lot of people questioning the social networking site. Safety Check was not activated in Lebanon on Thursday, which saw a double suicide bombing attack in Beirut that killed 43 and injured over 200 more.
