Microsoft is said to be working on an all-new all-in-one (AIO) Surface PC, expected to be launched in October. We’ve already heard similar rumours in July, and now Mary Jo Foley of  ZDnet claims that Microsoft is likely to host a late October event to launch the new Surface device dubbed Cardinal, which is speculated to be the new AIO.

Now, there is no clarity on whether the device will be named Cardinal or that’s the codename. The report further adds the device will be able to turn a user’s desk into a studio. Citing sources, it says Atom-based Surface 3 or Microsoft Band 2 may not get any update this calendar year. “I’ve heard that Microsoft will also highlight a bunch of OEM devices at the fall hardware launch, rather than making it an event all about Microsoft hardware like last year’s fall launch,” the report adds.

The Surface All-in-One will run Windows 10, and likely to come in either two or three different screen sizes such as 21-inch, 24-inch and 27-inch. Microsoft had applied for a patent for all-in-one modular PC back in 2015, and it was published this year earlier in February.

Recently, Microsoft had teased a new Surface Book hinge on Instagram . The image was said to be from an internal ‘sizzler-reel’ that’s been doing the rounds at Microsoft. That reel is apparently a compilation of ideas for the Surface Book 2. However, the report added that Microsoft prototypes are usually black, so the device may not necessarily be a black Surface Book 2.
