Skype Lite was launched last month by Microsoft for users of low-end Android devices. Thanks to the latest update, the company has now added support for Kannada language on the app.
The Skype Lite app was developed in Hyderabad and was launched exclusively for India, so it makes sense as to why the regional language was added first.
Microsoft also announced that the Linux version of the app has now progressed from alpha to beta. This has added certain new features and bug fixes to the app. The new app is available from the Google Play Store .
According to Microsoft, the new version 5.0 features the ability to place calls to mobiles and landlines with Skype credit. One-to-one video calls can be made from Linux to Skype users on the latest versions of Skype for Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac said the company in a blog post. Skype for Linux will also be able to view shared screens from other Skype desktop clients.
The Unity launcher is now said to display the number of unread conversations and online contacts will now include Away and Do Not Disturb status messages. The Skype for Linux beta version 5.0 can be downloaded from the company’s website
