Micromax unveils LapTab with Android and Windows OS

India’s second largest smartphone manufacturer Micromax has launched the LapTab, a dual-boot Android and Windows 8 tablet, at the ongoing CES 2014 in Las Vegas.

India’s second largest smartphone manufacturer Micromax has gone even more international than merely signing up Hugh Jackman to represent its brand. The company made a showing at the world’s largest technology showcase event - CES 2014 in Las Vegas.

The event is used by both established technology companies as well as hopeful newcomers to showcase their latest innovations.

So amid a slew of wearable technology, massive television screens and new futuristic vehicles, what did Micromax launch? No, it was not a phone.

The company insteadlaunched the LapTab, a dual-boot Android and Windows 8 tablet. The LapTab is the first Intel-powered tablet to have a dual-boot OS from the company. It is likely to be made available in February but Micromax has not yet specified a price.

The LapTab is powered by Intel’s Bay Trail-M, one of the first devices to be announced with that chipset. Micromax says the use of the Intel Celeron N2805 processor, clocked at 1.4GHz, will result in long battery-life. The tablet runs both Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Windows 8. However users will have to reboot the tablet to switch between the two Operating Systems.

The device has a 10.1-inch screen with 1280x800 resolution. It also comes with 2GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage space. It has a 7400 mAh battery, which should ensure better batter performance.

The device also hasa 2MP front camera with an ambient light sensor but it doesn’t have a rear camera. It also supports microSD slot with 64 GB. In terms of connectivity the LapTab supports Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi for internet connectivity. Micromax has not yet announced a cellular model till now.

The LapTab also has something called the ’transleeve’ which can be used as a cover or a stand for the wireless keyboard packed with an additional 230 mAh battery.

LapTab will be available across e-commerce portals and retail stores startingearly February, 2014.
