Micromax’s next smartphone, the Ninja A91, has quietly been made available on shopping websites without any announcements. You can get the dual-SIM smartphone for Rs 8,499.

The Ninja A91 is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor from MediaTek, which is based on ARM’s Cortex A-9 processor, and has 512MB of RAM. The display won’t be of the highest quality, since it is a TFT display, but considering the price, corners had to be cut somewhere. To keep the phone alive, it has been equipped with a 1,800 mAh battery. The graphics in the handset are powered by a PowerVR SGX531 GPU.

Here are some of the key features of the phone:

  • 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, WiFi
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth
  • 5 megapixel camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera
  • 4GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD

There hasn’t been any word from Micromax about the launch of the phone, and the company seems to have opted for a stealthy launch.

The last major smartphone launched by Micromax was the Canvas HD. After a bunch of inventory problems, however, the company started to finally deliver on older orders  in March.

Micromax and Snapdeal had apologised to their customers for the delay through emails and their Facebook pages. Besides letting us know that the shipments would be delayed, the email also highlighted the hike in the smartphone’s price due to 2013 Budget. The excise duty on mobile phones priced more than Rs 2,000 has been increased and consequently, the price of the A116 was revised from Rs 13,990 to Rs 14,499.

However, those who ordered the device after the first batch will not be affected by the hike. At the same time, to make up for the delay, Micromax will be throwing in a carry case for the Canvas HD worth Rs 700. If you cancelled your order in the time it took for shipping to start, then Micromax will refund the amount.

The Canvas HD is one of the most popular smartphones to have been launched in India this year. The phone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. All that power coupled with 1GB of RAM translates into good real-world performance. The UI is smooth most of the time, and the performance is helped by the fact that it runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
