Micromax today announced that it has sold a total of two million Bharat 2 smartphones within five months of its launch. The company had earlier achieved selling half a million units within 45 days of its launch. Having achieved the feat the company also claims that the Bharat 2 is the country's fastest selling Google-certified phone in its market.
Riding on the success of the Bharat 2, Micromax also announced the launch of the Bharat 2 Plus, Bharat 3 and Bharat 4. The company stated that the three new Bharat series phones could be expected across offline retail stores within the coming fortnight.
The Bharat 3 and Bharat 4 are expected to add a Smart Key feature along with support for up to 22 Indian languages as well as OTG support. The Bharat 2 Plus, on the other hand, will be an upgrade from the Bharat 2, packing a 5 MP primary camera, 1600 mAh battery and Android Nougat.
The Bharat 2 was launched in April by the company at a price of Rs 3,499. The specifications included a 4-inch WVGA (480×800) display, a 1.3 GHz Speadtrum SC9832 quad-core processor, 512 MB of RAM and just 4 GB of inbuilt storage with a microSD card slot expansion slot the at supports up to 32 GB. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and its USP is support for 4G VoLTE networks.
Commenting on the success of the Bharat-2, Micromax Informatics co-founder Rahul Sharma said, "The exception acceptance of Bharat 2 is a testimony of our vision and also goes to prove that there is a huge appetite for budget VoLTE smartphones amongst the Indian telecom subscribers."
