Micromax has quietly launched a new tablet in its Funbook series. The 3G-enabled voice-calling Funbook Ultra HD P580 is now available on HomeShop18 for Rs 11,990. This is the first Micromax tablet to have a 7.8-inch display and it’s got a 720p resolution (1280x720) too. The Funbook Ultra HD P580 ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and not Android 4.4 KitKat. Micromax tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, and though the chipset has not been specified, it’s very likely the MT8389 from MediaTek, which powers the Canvas Tab P650. The P580 has 1GB of RAM. What really makes the P580 a formidable tablet is the voice-calling and cellular 3G support. This essentially means the P580 is a giant phone. It also has the usual tablet connectivity options such as Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi, and Micromax even throws in FM radio. Other specs include 8GB of internal storage (of which around 5.5GB is user-accessible), but you can also get a microSD card up to 32GB to further increase storage. For photography, a 5-megapixel camera sits on the back and there’s a 2-megapixel shooter on the front. What could be disappointing is the 3600mAh battery, which should allow long usage if used as a tablet, but may not be ideal if used as a primary phone.
