Micromax’s online brand YU has announced the YU Developers Challenge at DroidCon India in Bangalore, a contest aimed at Indian app developers to develop apps for the Cyanogen OS on the Android platform. The grand prize for the winner is Rs 1,00,000. Developers need to submit their apps, after registering at YuPlayGod forum , before 31st December. The app will be under categories such as Personalisation, Camera, Privacy, Battery and Audio. The submitted apps will be judged by a panel of YU members on criterias such as App Idea, Code Completeness & Functionality, UI/UX and Memory & Optimization. The winner will get a prize of Rs 1,00,000, top three will get a YU smartphone and the top ten developers will get YU merchandise. The results will be out on 10th January 2015. Speaking at DroidCon, Rahul Sharma said, “As we usher into our journey towards revolutionising your smartphones, through this challenge we want to call upon the Developer Community to share their vision of reinvention and ingeniousness with us." The YU brand, owned by YU Televentures is a wholly owned subsidiary of Micromax Informatics and products associated with it will be sold online only. YU is being targetted at the new age users and we will be seeing YU branded devices launching in India towards the end of this month. Micromax and Cyanogen have been in dialogue for the past one year, under the Project Yureka. Project Yureka was conceptualised to engage directly with consumers and bring innovations that solve consumer problems, not just software or hardware upgrades and is taking the shape of a new brand YU.
