While we’re still praying to the tech gods and sacrificing virtual chickens to get phone manufacturers to realize the potential and convenience behind having a simple Mini-USB connector on all phones, the USB Implementers Forum has gone ahead and finalized a new successor to the format: the unsurprisingly named Micro-USB.
The speed of USB 2.0 will be maintained with the new Micro-series of connectors. Micro-USB will also come in different connector types, such as Micro-A and Micro-B.
The new micro-USB is “standardized, miniaturized and optimized for mobile use,” said Jouko Junkkari, Director within Nokia Technology Platforms, so can we expect the next batch of Nokia phones to all jump to this connector? I hope so.
