Game publisher Konami has announced that the much-awaited Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will be hitting stores in Spring 2014. The game will be hitting PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The release date for the second part of MGS 5, dubbed Phantom Pain, where the game’s plotline will play its hand, is currently unknown.
Ground Zeroes will introduce key gameplay elements that will be fully realised in The Phantom Pain, and it will act as a bridge between the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and The Phantom Pain. It will also serve as a bridge for gameplay elements, by featuring the progression from the earlier titles’ linear level design to Phantom Pain’s open world.

Explaining the relationship between the two titles, series creator Hideo Kojima commented: “The advanced capabilities of the Fox Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way. There will be a significant difference in what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential. As such, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer.”
Ground Zeroes charts a rescue mission where players infiltrate a Cuban prison camp, and sets in motion a series of events that culminate in The Phantom Pain. The prelude will showcase key advances to the series along with the much-hyped Fox Engine, with a large open environment, and missions where time of day and weather have a dynamic effect on the game and its missions.
Ground Zeroes is expected to cost £29.99, which roughly translates to Rs 2,960, on all platforms. The game will be available through both retail as well as digital means.
