Mercury mTab Rio 9.7-inch tablet launched for Rs.11,999

Mercury expands its mTab range of tablets with the new mTab Rio. The company had earlier offered a couple of mTab tablets, including the most recent mTab Neo 2. The new mTab Rio runs on Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. The mTab Neo2 was launched in April, and though it ran on Android Gingerbread, it was upgradable to ICS. Mercury’s previous tablets failed at delivering a good display quality, and this time the company has ensured a better display quality. While the Neo2 had a 7-inch touchscreen, Mercury ropes in the latest IPS panel and offers a large 9.7-inch display. Click here to check the complete review of the mTab Neo2. However, the mTab Rio is slightly cheaper than the Neo2 and has been priced at INR11,999.

The IPS panel helps to offer a consistent and accurate colour from all viewing angles in contrast to the traditional LCD screens, which display partial true color. It provides a quick and homogeneous response time and the optimal structure to process a large number of high speed signals without data loss. The 9.7-inch wide IPS display also promises to power the user with a vivid and clear picture, a stable response time of liquid crystal, and its smart driving technology.

The tablet is fuelled by a 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of DDR3 RAM. The tablet supports Wi-Fi and offers a battery backup of about 6-8 hours for continuous entertainment. The Neo2 came with 8GB storage option, which is expandable up to 32GB. The tablet tips the scale at 480 grams and users can choose from two storage options – 8GB and 16GB. The storage can further extend up to 32GB via a microSD card slot. This tablet is Wi-Fi enabled and supports Adobe Flash 11. It also has a built-in 2.0 megapixel camera, and the 300k front camera allows one to not only capture the memorable moments, but also indulge in video conference. On the connectivity front, it supports 3G through USB interface and offers a high HDMI output too.

Sushmita Das, Country Manager - India, Kobian Pte Ltd said, “Today, the trend is driven by the successive devices that deliver higher resolution display. IPS LCD display is a smart driven technology adopted by major brands to provide better quality of viewing experience or show tailing when touched making them the ideal for Tablet experience. Mercury mTab Rio can be a perfect companion for students to surf through the net and access to unlimited knowledge and fun, for office goers who are able to do their work anywhere; for families to enjoy movies, videos and chatting. Mercury mTab & mTab Neo has been a great success in India, we are confident that people shall enjoy Mercury mTab Rio equally or more.”

The Mercury mTab Rio is available ex-stock, backed by a one year warranty.
