MediaTek will announce the mid-range Helio P23 and P30 chipsetes on 29 August, say reports

Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has started sending out invites for the launch of its next range of mid-range chipsets — the Helio P23 and the Helio P30. The two chipsets will be announced at an event in Beijing on 29 August. The system on chip also expected to support 2K resolution as well as dual rear cameras. The higher end Helio P30 is expected to be based on the TSMC’s 12 nm process and will house a quad-core ARM Cortex A72 processor with a clock speed of up to 1.5 GHz and a quad-core ARM Cortex A53 processor clocked at up to 1.5 GHz. In terms of standards, the Helio P23 is expected to support Cat 7 whereas the Helio P30 will support the Cat 10 standard which supports theoretical download speeds of 600 Mbps. According to a Weibo user, the Helio P23 chipset will be seen on Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Meizu phones. And devices sporting this new MediaTek chipset will be seen in the market sometime in the fourth quarter this year. It is also speculated that the production capacity of the Helio P23 and P30 should reach up to 3 mn units per month. Earlier this year, the COAI had sought a government intervention with MediaTek powered dual-SIM phones, which according to the COAI were allegedly hampering 4G connectivity. When a 4G-LTE SIM is placed in the slot for a 2G SIM, 4G throughput on the network belonging to the operator of the primary SIM falls by as much as 40 percent, alleges COAI. A report in Digitimes also indicates that MediaTek is facing stiff competition from rival Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 platform. As per the report, Qualcomm is undercutting MediaTek’s offerings by a significant margin, forcing MediaTek to cut prices.
