Industry sources claim that chipset requirements from China-based smartphone makers such as Oppo, Vivo and Gionee, will boost the revenues of Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek in the second quarter this year.

Industry sources claim that chipset requirements from China-based smartphone makers such as Oppo, Vivo and Gionee, will boost the revenues of Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek in the second quarter this year. According to a report in Digitimes, Chinese phone makers Oppo, Vivo and Gionee are expected to see a 30 percent shipment growth in 2016. This will translate into increased demand for chipsets from MediaTek and other component sales. Oppo and Vivo recently showed highest growth numbers in the smartphone shipment according to IDC, in the first quarter of 2016. MediaTek has reported consolidated revenues of US $710.9 million for April 2016 says the report. According to sources who spoke to Digitimes, that number is expected to see a 30 percent boost in the second quarter. As far as India is concerned, MediaTek is going to concentrate on improving its LTE, VoLTE and VoWiFi suite to end consumers. MediaTek has seen a growth in the LTE shipments last year. It is working with around 10 OEMs to have over 25 VoLTE enabled handsets in the market in the next quarter in India. Apart from smartphones, MediaTek is also investing in MiraVision, which aims to provide digital TV type multimedia features on smartphones. The technology will be backed by the Helio series of chipsets. Some of its key features include SmartScreen, Ultra Dimming and BluLight Defender.
