Maxis considers adding mod support for SimCity

PC gamers are no stranger to modding. In recent times, however, barring a few developers, companies have been growing averse to the idea of letting modders make changes to their games. Developer Maxis seems to be taking in the right direction. The company revealed on the SimCity forums that it is considering opening the door for modders in the city-building game.

“Maxis has a long tradition with User Generated Content (UGC) and supporting the UGC community,” posted a Maxis developer going by the name MaxisKane. “As is seen with the Sims 3 Exchange and tools we’ve released in the past for SimCity, encouraging the creativity of our players is an important part of what we do.”

City? More like a town!

Mods make any game better

However, the company seems to be in a bit of a dilemma regarding what kind of UGC to allow into the game. “It’s difficult to determine what makes a ‘good’ or safe mod and what mods cross the line. Clarifying guidelines for UGC will help players understand where that line is and protect both our UGC and non-UGC community,” the forum post reads.

The company is inviting gamers to post their thoughts on the User Generated Content section of the SimCity forums. The company will take the next few weeks to evaluate the feedback and might end up adding support for mods and user-generated content into SimCity in a future update.

The game is all set to get its first ever expansion pack, dubbed Cities of Tomorrow. The expansion pack is set to hit EA’s digital distribution service Origin on November 12 and will be available on Mac and PC. It will feature buildings commonly associated with the future, as it is set 50 years ahead of the modern-day setting of SimCity.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
