Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! it’s a plane! No, it’s just Mr.Sharma heading off to work. This day is not far off thanks to M2K Group’s partnership with Martin Aircraft Company Limited, a New Zealand based aviation’s company that’s all set to bring the world’s first practical jetpack to India. The Martin Jetpack will be exclusively marketed, manufactured and sold by M2K Group for the SAARC region.
To Infinity and Beyond!
The jetpack consists of a purpose-built gasoline engine driving twin ducted fans which is capable of sufficient thrust to lift the aircraft and the pilot. It’s capable of vertical take- off of more than 1000ft per minute and can cruise at 100km/h. There will be two versions of the jetpack, a manned and an unmanned version which recently flew to a record-breaking 5000ft. Using a new technology like this is not without risks so naturally the Martin Jetpack has a bunch of clever safety features, as well. There is an internal roll cage made off carbon Kevlar to protect the pilot for side impact. The components used like the drivetrain, FanJets have a far higher FOS (Factors of Safety) rating than normal due to the close proximity to the pilot. Finally, it also has the first ballistic jetpack parachute should the engine fail mid-flight.
Martin Aircraft have managed to create a US $100m business selling jetpacks and other products to South Asian Sub Continents within a span of just 5 years. The company expects to commercialize the Martin Jetpack within the next 18 months, so for now, M2K group will be supplying the jetpacks to the Government for use in military, search and rescue sector, etc. One of the main advantages of the jetpack is the lower cost as compared to a helicopter. It can also reach places where typically a helicopter or a place would not. It’s also easier to learn which means shorter training periods and the hourly operating costs is said to be 90 per cent lower as compared to a helicopter.
