Man sues Xiaomi over failure to unlock Mi 5s NFC features

A man in China has sued internet conglomerate Xiaomi over its Mi branded smartphone. A users known as Mr Zhang has reportedly sued Xiaomi on its failure to unlock the NFC module that comes built into the smartphone but has not been accessible to the user since launch. First reported by GizmoChina, Zhang was disappointed by how the brand has failed to deliver a software update that should have unlocked not just the NFC capabilities, but also related features that would let him use his smartphone to pay for bank transactions and transit services. Xiaomi had apparently promised a software update while selling the smartphone and stated that it would come by October. It is now the middle of November and those features have not yet shown up on the Mi 5s smartphone. ![Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus colours](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/小米5s-927.245.jpeg) It’s basically a software update which has been delayed by Xiaomi. But what is important here is that Xiaomi promised that the said features would arrive but they simply did not (for whatever reason). Zhang wrote to Xiaomi demanding a refund and compensation, but the Chinese smartphone brand simply did not reply. Post this incident, Zhang filed for a suit against Xiaomi. As per the source, the customer always has an upper hand when it comes to such lawsuits as the customer paid for the device knowing that the advertised feature would arrive in the promised time frame. Back in September Xiaomi announced  Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus smartphones in China, the smartphone packed in the Snapdragon 821 SoC and Adreno 530 GPU. The dual camera sensors are the highlights of the smartphone. The rear of the device features a dual-camera system with two 13MP Sony IMX 378 sensors with the same aperture and speed rating as the camera on the Mi 5s. Of the two cameras, one captures a colour image and the other captures black and white data, which is more sensitive to light. The phone then combines the data from the two sensors to create a sharper, brighter image.
