Bengaluru-based Mango Man Consumer Electronics has now re-branded itself as Creo. And after the success of its Teewe Wireless HDMI streaming stick for TVs, wants to focus on building software. In fact, Creo wants to build its own Android-based OS and if possible, even its own Android smartphone to run it on.
For now the company that just secured $3 million in a funding round from Sequoia Capital, Beenext Ventures and India Quotient confirms that the OS is priority and the same was announced as a part of the re-branding effort.
Explaining why the move to build a mobile OS, the Creosense.com post puts things into perspective, “The idea of building an Android based operating system and a smartphone stemmed from the realization that in the current market, while hardware is getting better very fast, there is not enough differentiation on the software front. We want to be the ones bridging the apparent gap.”
According to YourStory , the Android-based OS will be an everchanging one and Creo plans to add new features to it to keep things refreshed.
More importantly, Creo wants to add features to the software that have never made it to any smartphone OS in the past. The new features will roll out on a monthly basis. Having an Android base, the software which remains unnamed for now, will also have access to the Google Play Store.
And with such an intriguing mobile operating system in place, it is obvious that the next best step is licensing, and Creo has plans to take its OS worldwide. Last but not the least, the company also has plans to push out its own smartphone that is expected to showcase the ever evolving OS.
Teewe first announced its Wireless HDMI streaming stick back in September 2014. A little less than a year later, the Teewe 2 was announced with the ability to stream torrents in a recent update.
