Lycos , has launched Lycos Mix , that allows groups of people to pull video clips from a variety of different sources across the web into one playlist, creating a community around shared interests and topics.
With Lycos Mix, users respond to content with content, combining and collaborating on creating a video collection or Mix for viewing and interacting, all in one place. Unlike stand-alone video sites, Lycos Mix puts the video experience in the hands of viewers giving them control over creating a playlist of their favorite clips from multiple sites, and a means to view and chat in a shared communal experience.
“Lycos Mix continues the evolution of community and video with a true Web 2.0 collaborative, contributory and interactive social viewing experience,” said Brian Kalinowski, chief operating officer for Lycos, Inc. “Unlike social networking sites, each Mix is a collection of video clips where users socialize around content, not individual people or profiles, creating combinations of lasting content to share with others. With Lycos Mix, users can create an amalgamation of video content where others participate by viewing, commenting and adding more clips.”
Lycos first introduced its proprietary watch & chat technology in Nov. 2006, when it raised the curtain on Lycos Cinema , the web’s first-ever social network platform allowing users to watch simultaneously and chat about video content in real-time. While Lycos Cinema lets multiple users watch and chat about long-form film content, Lycos Mix gives users the ability to retrieve clips from top video sites, where multiple users can add video to the Mix, chat, interact and socialize around like- minded interests.
With three easy steps, users can create a Mix for free. Mixes can be either public, meaning anyone can add video clips to the Mix playlist, or private, where the Mix owner takes full control over what video content is added. Moderated Mix features also allow anyone to submit videos to the Mix, but the Mix owner has to approve content before it appears. Users can create multiple Mixes, containing multiple video clips, and easily email Mixes to friends, inviting them to participate in the Mix.
Other unique functionality includes a “Mix It” bookmarklet feature, allowing users to quickly and easily add videos from other sites to their Mixes without cutting or pasting URL’s. Permanent comment and rating system features also allow users to rate Mixes, as opposed to individual pieces of video content.
Both PC and MAC users can access Lycos Mix and IE, Windows, Safari and Firefox browsers, all support Lycos Mix.
Born with the sole aim of correcting people, Sharon took to copy-editing at an early age. In the olden days her methods of correction were rather unorthodox. Don't believe us? Ask the intern who lost two of his er.... Oh ok, I guess we don't talk about that. Now after she got a kid, things have relatively mellowed down. Besides handling the plethora of content that comes out of Tech2, Sharon also handles our sister site, CompareIndia where you can well compare prices of pretty much every electronic item under the sun and CHIP magazine as well, if things weren't heavy enough. She handles a team, all of who seem real happy as long as they're not chained to their desks.
