Nokia officially began rolling out the Black update to Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 users around the world on January 10 and the update now seems to be available for Nokia Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 devices in India already. Undoubtedly, the update is bringing along some tweaks and new features along with it. The news of the update was officially announced on both Nokia’s blog and Microsoft’s Windows Phone blog. Nokia has announced that a host of new features, improvements to imaging, new apps and app updates are being rolled out with the firmware update dubbed Lumia Black. The most important feature that is coming Lumia users’ way is the App Folder, which will give them the option to streamline the Start screen and make it crisper. You will now be able to group similar apps and settings into one folder, which turns into a tile, on your Start screen. While Android and iOS users have had this handy feature along for a while, it’s finally come to Windows Phone. Another new feature is the Nokia Glance screen 2.0, which will help you keep a track of information and notifications in real time. You’ll be able to see phone notifications, emails, Outlook, calendar and even Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and fames based notifications by glancing at your screen. Nokia’s brilliant **Refocus** is also coming to all Windows Phone 8 Lumia phones that have 1GB of RAM, at least. The feature will let you first click a photo and then focus on parts of it later. Nokia Beamer has been added to phones with 1GB RAM and upwards too. You can now beam not just photos but also documents and presentations and more simply by scanning a QR code on the screen. Nokia Storyteller, that made its debut with Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520 is now coming to other devices too. It arranges images for you according to time and place, making it easier for you to go through it. The Nokia Camera app which was available for Lumia PureView smartphones earlier is coming to other WP8 Lumia devices too. It combines Nokia Pro Camera and Smart Camera for a simplified photo-taking experience. You will also be able to now get raw DNG support for images you click. Nokia says the update is bringing along better image quality for all phones and especially for the Lumia 1020. One of these key features is an oversampling algorithm that makes your image look more natural, with reduced noise. Lastly, tweaks are coming to your phone too. You will now be able to assign customised ringtones to each contact, a safe driving mode and the ability to close apps within the multitasking view and lock screen rotation. The Lumia Black update has already started rolling out for the Lumia 1020 and the Lumia 925 smartphones with other Windows Phone 8 devices from Nokia joining the queue for updates in the coming weeks. While your phone checks for updates every week, you can go to Settings and then Phone Updates to check manually. If the update arrives for your phone, get installing. The timing of the update could not have been better with Nokia launching the Lumia 525 and Lumia 1320 in India last week. Check out our **first impressions** and a look at the **tech specs** of the Lumia 1320.
