London is the top Tinder Passport destination for 2016; New Delhi is favoured in India though

Tinder has released some data regarding the use of the Tinder Passport feature, which was introduced in March this year. According to Tinder’s blog post, “Passport lets you change your location to connect with people anywhere around the world. It’s like teleporting to a different location. Search by city or drop a pin on the map and you can begin swiping, matching and chatting with Tinder users in a destination of your choice.” According to Tinder, London is the most favoured Tinder Passport destination in 2016, followed by Paris and New York. No Indian destination features in the top 15. However, for the Indian Tinder Passport users, the overall top 5 destinations by rank includes New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune and Kolkata. According to Tinder, a lot of the Passport users use the feature to assist with travel planning and discovery ahead of arrival. This feature is being used by Tinder users to directly learn from locals on the best hotspots, tourist pitfall attractions to avoid and even familiarising oneself with the local language and way of life in advance of departure. Another interesting find was that ahead of the Olympics games, Tinder Passport visits to Rio de Janeiro, which will be hosting the games, have increased by 10 per cent. Some other destinations that have significantly risen in popularity this year include Bali, Indonesia, where swipes have increased by 60 percent since 2015, and Toronto, with a 44 percent increase.
