Liveblog: Apple launches the new MacBook Pro in 3 flavours

With the pace at which technology moves today, Apple has surely ignored its MacBook lineup for a really long time. To be precise, the last upgrade arrived more than a year ago and these were just hardware upgrades. With the MacBook Air, we have yet to see a redesign since Steve Jobs pulled it out of an envelope back in 2008. Over the years, there was just one cosmetic upgrade and it is still stuck with fifth-generation chipsets and an old HD display while the Windows competition has moved way ahead . The same can be said about the MacBook Pro which has yet to see a substantial change since it last major update back in 2012. This year at the Apple Special Event , the company is expected to show an upgraded lineup of the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro, which apart from upgraded hardware is also expected to feature newer designs. According to recent rumours Apple is expected to kill the 11-inch MacBook Air model and retain the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models and also get rid of the standard USB port with a Type C socket. Talking about design, rumours so far point to the presence of the an OLED strip over the keyboard area that replaces the currently available function keys. The new touchscreen strip will display different keys or functions depending on the application running on the display. The same area is also expected to pack in a Touch ID fingerprint reader for payments.
