Indie game developer Playdead has announced that its critically acclaimed side-scrolling game—Limbo—is coming to iOS devices next Wednesday on July 3. The game will cost $4.99, which roughly translates to Rs 302. While the other handheld port of the game for the PlayStation Vita was handled by a different studio (Double Eleven), Playdead itself has handled the iOS port.
"We have worked very hard to bring LIMBO to as many devices as possible; rethinking the controls and performing extensive optimizations to ensure an amazing touch-based experience across iPad 2 (and higher), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (and higher) and the latest generation of iPod Touch," said a spokesperson.
One of the darkest and most oppressive games we've ever seen is coming to iOS
Limbo is a 2D puzzle platforming horror game that was originally released on Xbox Live Arcade and later made its way to the PlayStation Network and Steam.
Players step into the shoes of an unnamed young boy in Limbo, who is searching for his sister. There is no dialogue or text of any kind in the game, and most of the gameplay is figured out by trial and error, with error resulting in very graphic and brutal death of the boy. The boy has no way to fight back against enemies, and his set of moves only consist of jumping, pushing/pulling objects, climbing ledges and swinging on ropes.
Thanks to this, the game has received critical acclaim for its depiction of total helplessness of the boy as he navigates through the treacherous environments of Limbo, with its pits with sharp spikes and giant spiders that want to impale you the first chance they get.
