Some of the biggest iPhone features have found their way on to rival smartphones sooner or later. And it seems the **iPhone 5s's** fingerprint scanner is the latest rage among smartphone makers. We’ve already seen the **HTC One Max** with a fingerprint scanner and the latest to jump on the bandwagon is LG. The Korean company plans to bring fingerprint scanners to its 2014 flagships. According to Korea’s ETNews, the company plans to include a fingerprint scanner in multiple devices, starting with the upcoming LG G Pro 2.

It will be followed by the LG G3 and several others. The LG G Pro 2 is the company’s upcoming phablet that is expected to announce at the Mobile World Congress next month. It is likely to sport a 5.9-inch Quad HD 1440 x 2560 pixels display and will be an upgrade to the **Optimus G Pro.** The scanner could very well be incorporated into the back-panel buttons of the phone, which was seen in the **LG G2** . [caption id=“attachment_216707” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Initially, the fingerprint scanner will be seen in LG's G3 and ](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/lg_g2_8_091727533794_640x360.jpg) Initially, the fingerprint scanner will be seen in LG’s G3 and G Pro 2[/caption]   LG’s Korean rival Samsung is also believed to have given up on its **ambitious iris/eye scanner functionality** for the Galaxy S5, and will instead opt for a fingerprint scanner just like everyone else. Apparently, iris recognition would require an additional camera for the identification technology, resulting in a bulkier device. It also requires a long range camera, which would also mean a complete design overhaul compared to the previous Galaxy models.   What remains to be seen is whether any of these fingerprint scanners can replicate the iPhone 5s’s functionality. Fingerprint scanners are nothing new and we’ve seen them way before the iPhone 5s too, but it’s their functionality and longevity that had remained under question. Apple addressed these with some unique choices for the scanner, but whether other manufacturers can come close it, without losing their brand identity or blindly imitating the Cupertion company, is still under debate.
