LG to start selling 4G LTE TDD smartphones in India

LG has announced that it will now be starting the worldwide rollout of smartphones that are capable of using the LTE TDD (Long Term Evolution Time Division Duplexing) service. The company is starting in Saudi Arabia with its flagship handset - the Optimus G - on the Saudi Telecom Company network. The company will be launching LTE TDD capable phones in India, China, Japan, Australia and North America later this year.

LTE TDD allows receiving and transmitting to occur on the same frequency at different times, unlike Long Term Evolution Frequency Division Duplexing (LTE FDD) which assigns two different frequencies for transmitting and receiving data. This means LTE TDD works more like home broadband, with a narrow band for uploading and a wider one for downloading heavier content such as video and music for more efficient transmission of data.

“LTE TDD is a superior alternative in some countries due to its flexibility in uploading and downloading content,” said Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We’re excited to offer consumers LTE TDD capable smartphones based on our unparalleled knowhow in 4G LTE technologies. With the commercial introduction of LTE TDD service, LG will build upon its expertise in 4G LTE by offering future device options utilizing this standard.”

With LG leading the charge, it will only be a matter of time before other companies will bring their own LTE-TDD capable smartphones to India.

LG had originally showcased handsets that are capable of running on the LTE TDD service earlier this year during the Mobile World Congress.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns.
