LG has now announced its revenue earnings for the second quarter to the tune of KRW15.23 trillion ($13.6 billion). This amounts to a 10.1 percent increase year-on-year owing to its sales increasing in most business units. The main increase was seen in LG’s mobile phone business.
According to the data, the company was able to ship a record 12.1 million smartphones in the April-June period, which is the highest quarterly figure ever recorded in the company’s history. The number amounted to revenue of KRW3.12 trillion ($2.78 billion). When you break it down, LG’s smartphone division has seen a 34.5 percent increase from the figures recorded in the same period a year earlier.
The snag, however, came in the overall operating and net profit that the company roped in this year. While LG’s operating and net profit stood at KRW479 billion ($426.9 million), this was slightly lower from what the company was able to show in the same period last year. The company has been able to improve its net and operating profit from the previous quarter, though.
LG’s mobile division saw a record 12.1 million smartphones being shipped out…
The mobile business went from strength to strength when compared to the same period last year, with the current operating profit rising year-on-year to KRW61 billion ($54.37 million). However, there has been a decline registered from the previous quarter owing to a weaker demand in the Korean market as well as intense competition, which resulted in lower selling prices. Apart from that, the cost incurred in marketing also brought the overall operating profit down.
The company seems positive about the rest of the year, though. According to The Next Web, the company has said that it expects shipments from mass-market smartphone models like the L-Series II and F-Series to drive up the sales, while the high-end offerings that LG is bringing, like the G Pro and the soon-to-be-released LG G2, will serve to increase its product competitiveness.
According to the report, it has been seen that the Optimus G Pro, which comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, passed the 1 million sales figure in South Korea last month. The milestone was reached a month after Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 was able to do the same in that region.
LG’s latest flagship phone, the G2, is expected to be seen in New York on August 7. The specifications of the phone seen so far seem impressive, with the smartphone boasting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz as well as 2GB of RAM. In addition, the phone may come with a 13 megapixel primary shooter and Android 4.2.2 Jeally Bean with the Optimus UI on top.
