LG G Pro 2 phablet with massive 5.9-inch display, Snapdragon 800 SoC unveiled

LG has expectedly unveiled a revamped version of its G Pro phablet today, seeking to woo customers ahead of a rival offering from market leader Samsung expected later this month.   The LG G Pro 2 boasts a 5.9-inch display, bigger than the 5.5 inch screen of the previous model, which **we thought was a great attempt on LG's part** . At 5.9 inches, it is indeed one of the biggest on the market, competing with the likes of the Oppo N1 and the new voice tablets from HP. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.   The unveiling of the new G Pro had been expected later this month. LG’s earlier timing may have been prompted by market leader Samsung’s decision to unveil a version of its flagship Galaxy S smartphone on February 24 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, three weeks earlier than expected.   The G Pro 2 will be on the market in Korea in late February. Other specs include a 1-watt speaker system, a first for smartphones and at 8.3mm thick, the G Pro 2 is slightly thinner than its predecessor. It also sports what LG calls a “metal mesh” back cover, along with the now-familiar back buttons. It’s also a rare smartphone with 3GB of DDR3 RAM, and the 32GB internal storage is expandable with a microSD slot, which means you have ample space for high-definition videos. There’s an improved 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.  The new camera, the phone is able to record 4K video with stabilization and 120fps slow-motion footage in HD.   The G Pro 2 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and comes with LG’s customisations. It includes Knock Code that LG says lets users unlock their phone without looking at the screen. KnockOn which debuted with the G2 is also present. Knock Code lets users tap on any portion of an invisible grid to unlock the phone; LG says there are 86,000 different unlocking combination so you can find one that’s perfect for you.
