LG Electronics India has finally launched its LG G5 modular smartphone in the country. The flagship handset will be available in retail stores at an MRP of Rs 54,000 and online at Flipkart for Rs 52,990. The device packs in premium hardware and runs the latest software with LG’s underpinnings, but its specialty lies in its modular functionality, with the ability to hook up add-ons that will let users enhance the capabilities of the smartphone. The LG G5 features an all metal construction with a rounded pebble-shaped design that will be available in Titan, Gold and Silver. The device comes with a primer coating on top of the metal that lets LG hide the antenna bands that are usually visible and ruin the visual appearance of smartphones these days. The modular add-on accessories tagged as LG Friends allow the user to expand the capabilities of the smartphone and includes a everything from a 360-degree camera to the Hi-Fi Plus audio module approved by Bang and Olufsen. The accessories will be sold separately.
Coming to the smartphone’s hardware, we get a 5.3-inch QHD display with a pixel density of 554 PPI that features a 3D arc glass which curves towards the top end of the smartphone. The glass for the screen comes from Corning and features the company’s Gorilla Glass 4 material. Inside, we get a 2.1 GHz 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage and the smartphone supports microSD cards of up to 2TB. As for the cameras LG has something special out here as well. The device packs in a DUO camera, which is basically a dual lens camera setup with a 16 MP rear camera and a 135-degrees wide, 8 MP camera as well. Having two cameras lets users switch between close-up shots and wide-angle shots. The front facing camera is an 8MP unit as well. The primary camera features OIS 2.0 and laser autofocus stacked in there as well. Coming to connectivity, we get 4G bands, Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and GPS . A USB Type C connector completes the package. The LG G5 runs Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow and all of the above is powered by a removable 2800mAh battery.
