The company has tied up with Airtel for the 4G launch and the phone will enjoy 4G services at 3G rates, starting with Bangalore, where the telecom giant already has an iPhone 4G plan .

Stating that 4G is a much awaited and relatively new mobile telephony in India, LG India’s mobile communications product and marketing head Amit Gujral said, “4G will become mainstream in India by the end of 2015 and LG G2 is a first step to realise the new mobility service for the Indian consumers.”

The LG G2 was one of the best phones of last year, as we found in our review and our year-end list . Its hardware is stellar, while LG has made some interesting changes in the software department as well. In particular the back-panel button arrangement has made the G2 stand out from the rest and now that has been adopted for nearly all of LG’s phones. In terms of specs, the G2 has a 2.26 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, 16 or 32GB internal storage, but no micro SD card slot. There’s a 13 megapixel rear camera with OIS and a 2.1 megapixel front camera.

Bharti Airtel CEO-Karnataka Rohit Malhotra, who was present at the event, said 4G LTE is currently the fastest wireless internet service in India and as the only operator providing 4G services, “we have taken the lead in partnering OEM’s to test their devices on our network and help grow the ecosystem.”

“We welcome LG G2 to the bouquet of devices which are 4G ready and are duly tested on our network,” he added. Stating that Airtel 3G customers can now seamlessly move to 4G experience on their existing 3G data pack with exactly same price, Malhotra said: “To enjoy 4G on move, customers just need to upgrade to a 4G SIM available at stores.”

He also said Bangalore is India’s first mobile 4G enabled city. With introduction of mainstream 4G LTE smart phones, wider adoption of 4G would soon become a reality. Reliance JIO is slated to introduce its mobile 4G services later this year.
