Leviathan DLC for Mass Effect 3 gets a release date

One of the biggest games to come out this year, Mass Effect 3, is getting a new single player DLC (downloadable content) called Leviathan. The BioWare blog says that this new DLC will be releasing on August 28 for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC. The blog also notes that PlayStation 3 players in Europe will see the release of the DLC on August 29.

Leviathan, which was announced earlier in August, takes place during the events of Mass Effect 3. The protagonist of the game, Commander Shepard, is thrust into the darkest corners of space where he will hunt a mysterious being rumoured to be powerful enough to destroy a Reaper. As Shepard races against time, he will begin to learn more about the secret of the Leviathan. Here is a summary of the story according to BioWare: “Something lurks in the dark corners of space, something powerful enough to kill a Reaper. Shepard must discover the most closely guarded secret in the galaxy before the Reapers silence it forever. Discover more about the origins of the Reapers as you race across the galaxy to find the Leviathan. Unravel the dark history of the Reaper Race before it is too late. Coming later this summer there is no war, only the harvest.”

Some of the other new features of the Leviathan DLC are new areas on the Citadel, new characters and new weapons (the AT-12 Raider Shotgun and M-55 Argust Assault Rifle). The DLC is set to cost $10 (roughly Rs. 550) or 800 Microsoft points.

Mass Effect 3 has gained a large amount of notoriety among gamers for having one of the most disappointing endings ever made in a game. One of the biggest reasons for the disappointing ending was that players had been waiting for a satisfying end to the story since the first Mass Effect game came out in 2007. The trilogy took around five years to finish and players were left with a sour taste in their mouth after finishing Mass Effect 3. To fix this, BioWare had released an “Extended Cut” DLC which promised to expand on the ending.

The Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC aimed to expand on the game’s disappointing ending through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes. The Extended Cut also includes deeper insight in Commander Shepard’s journey, based entirely on player choices during the war against the Reapers. The DLC was released for free on 26 June for the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The DLC does not fundamentally change the ending, but instead, adds to it.

According to BioWare, “The Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.”

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
