LeTV unveils world's first USB Type-C phones dubbed 'Le Superphones'

Chinese video streaming site LeTV has launched three smartphones namely the LeTV One, LeTV One Pro and the LeTV One Max which all sport a super thin bezel along the side.


Chinese video streaming site LeTV unveiled three new smartphones namely the LeTV One, LeTV One Pro and the LeTV One Max which all sport a super thin bezel along the side. The company claims that these devices, dubbed 'Le Super Phones', will be the first ever smartphones to have USB Type-C ports. The most notable perk of this feature is that unlike traditional micro USB, Type C tips are reversible.

Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, the founder and CEO of internet video site Leshi TV (LeTV), who had compared tech giant Apple to Hitler last month, will launch these devices in the US later this year.

All three phones run on Android Lollipop with the company's UI skin on top. The LeTV One sports a 5.5-inch full-HD display with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It includes a pixel density of 403ppi. The device is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz and paired with 3GB RAM. The smartphone will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB inbuilt storage variants. In terms of camera, the handset sports a 13MP rear camera with OIS, dual-LED flash, and a f/2.0 lens, along with a 5MP front-facing camera. The LeTV One comes equipped with a 3,000mAh battery. In terms of connectivity, the device supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with hotspot, Wi-fi Direct, and Wi-Fi Display support, Bluetooth 4.0 with APT-X support, GPS/ A-GPS and micro-USB. It features a USB Type-C port and MHL 2.0.

The LeTV One Pro features a 5.5-inch QHD display with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution along with a pixel density of 538ppi. The device is powered by a 64-bit 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with a 4GB RAM. The device will be available in 32GB and 64GB storage variants. The device features a 13MP rear camera along with OIS along with an ‘UltraPixel’ front facing camera. It features a USB Type-C port and MHL 3.0.

The LeTV One Max phablet features a 6.33-inch QHD display with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution along with a pixel density of 464ppi. It is powered by a 64-bit 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 4GB RAM. The device will be available in 64GB and 128GB inbuilt storage variants. The device sports a whooping 21MP rear camera with OIS, Sony IMX230 sensor, dual-LED flash along with a 4-UltraPixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with hotspot support, Bluetooth 4.1 with APT-X support, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and 4G LTE connectivity. A choice between 3,400mAh and 3,500mAh battery is also available.

In terms of price, the LeTV One Pro is priced at CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs 25,000) for 32GB storage variant and CNY 2,699 (roughly Rs 27,000) for 64GB storage variant. The LeTV One is priced at CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs 15,000) for 16GB variant, CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs 16,000) for 32GB and CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs 18,000) for 64GB. Pricing for the LeTV One Max has not been disclosed.
