Lenovo to discontinue Vibe brand to pave way for Motorola: Report

Lenovo is now planning to discontinue its Vibe brand, and focus on Motorola, according to the buzz online. Lenovo acquired Motorola last year, and is currently selling its phones under three brands namely, Motorola, Vibe and Lemon. The Vibe range includes the P1 and recently launched S1 . The company’s higher -end models fall in this range. Now, Chen Xudong, President of Lenovo’s Mobile Business Group told TechQQ that the company is abandoning the Vibe series of phones. https://twitter.com/Canalys/status/669808216721747968 In India, Lenovo is the fourth biggest smartphone vendor. Research firm Canalys says that this move is to help pave way for Motorola devices. It will help reduce cannibalising of its own products and make its portfolio simpler. According to recent  The Economic Times report, Lenovo aims to take the second spot in India and is looking to almost double the local production to 10 million units annually by next year. The report also adds that Lenovo plans to export from its Chennai facility and will make more models in India. **Earlier this month** , Lenovo had said it was committed to India in terms of investment in areas of manufacturing and research and development. “In three years, we have reached a revenue of $2.5 billion in India compared to a target of $800 million when we came to this country which is fast evolving in the area of technology,” Lenovo chairman and chief executive Yang Yuanqing had said.
